The images of abuse in a U.S. run Iraqi prison couldn’t be more disturbing.

Disturbing too is that Donald Rumsfeld and the Department of Defense knew about this and didn’t take immediate action and didn’t even inform the leaders in Congress. John Kerry has called for Donald Rumsfeld to resign — and the Kerry Campaign is asking us to show support for his decision by endorsing his statement here.

Note: I am not a big fan of the US (never have been), nor do I support John Kerry’s campaign -though anyone’s better than ‘dubya dubya’ -, but I definitely think that Rumsfeld should resign immediately!

Oops

My mom told me to think first and then talk. Most of the time, I follow her advise. Sometimes – but not as often as a couple of years ago – I don’t. At those moments, I just blurt out anything that comes to mind. Wrong. I know. I can really hurt people with my tactless comments. Also, I have shocked others with intimate details about me or my life. But the worst of all: I will say something really stupid… And realise that immediately after it left my mouth.

I turn pink

I start sweating

I wish for the ground to open underneath me

I apologise

Food for thought

I was taught at University that it takes millions and millions of years -and some pressure but lets skip the details – for organic material to develop into coal.

If you don’t clean your electric oven on a regular basis, it can be done in a few months…

Ladies (and cross-dressers) only

Never, ever try on a new bikini when

- your body has not seen sun in months;

- the fitting room has the brightest lighting in town;

- you haven’t worked out since…think, Solly, think!,… A while ago.

Sad

Around the corner is a tiny electronics shop, with the largest stock ever. Anything you can imagine in household electronics and beyond is on its shelves. You name it, they have it. Even if you couldn’t name it, the 89 year (!!!) old shop owner would know which “thingy” you meant.

A couple of months ago, the shop was robbed. And the shop owner molested, because there wasn’t enough money in cash… Since then, the shop was closed. I had to go to large, anonymous DIY shops, with 16 year old assistants who could not find the “thingy for transmitting the thing to the back”. “Can you be more specific, mizz?” I thought I already was…

Last Saturday, the shop was open for the last time. Clearance sale. The owners son behind the counter. The owner himself is still recovering- physically and mentally – in a nursing home. He probably has to stay there. “Dad was robbed from his health, his life, his independence and self-esteem”, the son says in a bitter tone. “Why did the attacker have to wreck the live of my dad, our family and his customers?”

...anything you can imagine in household electronics..

Play that funky music, white girl

My love won a DJ contest!

Thought I can’t mix and we weren’t the only two contestants, I became runner-up. Second place! It’s all about what you play!

NSFK+PWWS

Every evening after 11 PM I watch MTV. Not for the uncensored videos – though the lyrics make more sense without the blip’s – but for the cartoon in between! Recently I found out, that I don’t have to wait till past my bed time, but that the cartoon can be watched online, too! I am so thrilled, that I want to share this knowledge with all you people out there. However, some warnings are in place. What you are about to see is a perfect example of Solly’s sick sense of humor and very much not suitable for kids and people with weak stomachs. Do not be fooled by their innocent appearance. Ready? Go see the Happy Tree Friends!

It is a girl!!!

Isn't she lovely? I am very happy to announce that Elle gave birth to a daughter: Sonne Liv.

She was born at 9:32 AM, weighs 3200 grams and is in a very good health! Mom is resting, dad is very, very proud!

Mutter

Coming Sunday is Mother’s Day, and I haven’t thought of a present for my mum yet. Yes, I am a heartless daughter…

When I was younger, life was so much easier – well, at least with respect to Mother’s Day. A poem (first written by a teacher, later dictated by a teacher) with a painting, together with breakfast in bed (at 7 AM…) always brought a smile to her face. During puberty, me and my brother bought a tea- and a coffee cup every year, because mom’s always broke in the two weeks prior to mothers day (it took me years to see the convenient coincidence). Me and my brother are adults now (well, I am) and have moved out. No more early breakfast-in-bed or crockery, but flowers and fragrances.

Since 6 years, I have a mother in law, which makes life even more difficult – well, at least with respect to Mother’s Day. Now, I have to think about two presents (my love is sweet, but remains a guy) and two moms to visit. My brother has an easier life (Mother’s Day-wise). He has two kids, so they (or their teachers) will take care of the presents for his wife and for our Mom.

Today I am going to have coffee at Mom’s. Not only to find out what she would like to get this year, but also to remind my Dad: his absent-mindedness has resulted in several (annual) marriage crises…
